Google's doodle on its 15th birthday

google-doodle-15birthday.jpg

Google is celebrating its 15th birthday with an interactive Google doodle that features a piñata game.

A piñata is a fancy container that is filled with sweets and goodies which is later broken as part of a celebration. Piñatas are popular in Mexico. Friday's Google doodle features a piñata that sports the colours of the Google logo. The alphabets in the Google logo are part of the celebration and the blindfolded, second 'G' alphabet holds a stick with which users have to hit the piñata when it comes close, to try and extract the maximum number of sweets that fall with each hit, in ten limited chances. Users can play with the Space bar key of their keyboards or even with the computer mouse. They can even share the score on Google+.

Current News: BlackBerry 9720 @ Rs 15,990 in India

BlackBerry 9720 launched in India at Rs 15,990

In a bid to regain the market share in India, Canadian handset-maker BlackBerry today launched a new smartphone -- BlackBerry 9720 -- which will retail at Rs 15,990.

The new handset, which will be available from the weekend, builds on the success of the BlackBerry 7 OS, BlackBerry India product management head Advait Vaidya said.

From being amongst the top three smartphone players in India some time ago, BlackBerry's market share has now tanked even below that of the Apple, a later entrant, and the smaller Indian companies which sell cheap Chinese-made handsets.

In terms of revenue too, BlackBerry, which was among the top three, has slipped to seventh spot in the country, as per CyberMedia Research.

In FY12, BlackBerry ranked below not just Samsung, Nokia and Micromax, but also Apple and HTC, in terms of revenue. According to the report, BlackBerry had 3.1% market share -- down from over 15% in the previous years -- of the Rs 31,330-crore handset market in the country.

Fitted with the new operating system 7.1, the device features a Qwerty keyboard, 2.8-inch touchscreen and track-pad for navigation, 5 megapixel camera, FM radio and new feature BBM Voice, which lets users chat over Wi-Fi for free.

Asked why BlackBerry is launching an OS7 powered device when it already has handsets powered by an advanced operating system, Vaidya said the company wants to offer devices across platforms and price points.

"We have a huge Qwerty-installed base and people want handsets across price points. This new device gives them better OS (than existing models like Curve) at affordable prices," he said.

Most people find change stressful, so I do not find it surprising thatresearchers have discovered a statistical relation between falling ill andthe experience of major life events such as death of a spouse, gettingmarried, etc. Those who have experienced a higher index of such changes, generally report a greater incidence of ill-health. Yet, most of us find that this research quite doesn't tally with the experience.Reasoning similarly, another group found a strong correlation between
health and hassles of life—the thousands of little daily irritations.

Facebook will provide another angle - professional networking site like LinkedIn

Facebook will provide another angle - professional networking site like  LinkedIn

After launching Twitter-like real-time feeds, Facebook now seems to have set eyes on professional networking website LinkedIn's turf. The company is testing a LinkedIn-like 'Professional Skills' section on user profiles.

In a statement to thenextweb.com, a Facebook spokesperson said, "We are currently testing a new option where you can add your professional skills to the work and education section of your timeline."

The feature, now in a rollout phase, allows users to add skills to their profile. The feature seems to be aimed at job seekers, with users being asked to add their professional skills on their account. The new 'Professional Skills' option will appear under 'Work and Education' head in the profile. Users will have the option to add multiple abilities to their profile.

Incidentally, this is not the first LinkedIn-type feature introduced by Facebook. Last year, the company had announced a "Social Jobs Partnership" with the US Department of Labor and other government agencies. The interactive job board aggregates openings from recruiting companies like Work4 Labs, BranchOut, Jobvite, DirectEmployers and Monster.com.
